WE WANT TO GET PEOPLE INTERESTED IN OUTDOOR LIFE
By informing people, we want to guide them into the boundless wonders of Sweden´s countryside. We want them to share the fantastic experiences which nature has to offer.
We want to publicise opportunities of outdoor recreation and show how readily available they are. We want to get people interested and enthusiastic about open-air life as a leisure activity.
In short, our aim is to open up the countryside to everybody, all the year round and in all winds and weathers.

WE WANT TO SHOW PEOPLE THE WAY TO THE COUNTRYSIDE THROUGH OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
Friluftsfrämjandet runs guided outdoor activities through more than 490 local branches all over Sweden. Our main activities are participatory outdoor life, skiing and skating.
The "skogsmulle" school for children aged 5-7 is our best-known activity. In this way almost 1.500.000 children have been playfully instructed about nature and outdoor life.
Our activities also include canoeing and sea kayaking, backpacking, long-distance skating, fitness training, camping and wilderness expeditions, for example. We have 500.000 participants annually in our adult and family arrangements. Numerous and well-trained leaders are our guarantee of high quality and personal care.

We also work to enable handicapped to participate in outdoor life.

CO-OPERATION WITH AUTHORITIES AND ORGANISATIONS
By constant pressurisation we try to create a better understanding on the part of policy makers for the value of outdoor life. Our aim is to create better outdoor recreational opportunities for the future.
We are convinced of the social usefulness of greater awareness of nature and more time spent in the countryside - for relaxation and regeneration.

If You want to visit Sweden

You will find general information about Stockholmm Archipelago here:

and, what I should recommend (if  You have only one day free), ideas about a day in the Stockholm Archipelago

When in Stockholm, call ´Waxholmsbolaget´, phone (+46) 8 679 58 30 for information about tours in the archipelago. Please notice that they have a few old steamships (´Storskär´ and ´Norrskär´). Absolutely silent, and with good resturants on board. But be carefull - not all of their ´steamships´ are real s/s, most of them are in fact m/s, with noicy disel engins (but still charming).

If You want to practice kayaking - and if You are not a beginner - take a ´Waxholm Boat´ to ´Norra Stavsudda´ in the middle of the archipelago, where you can hire kayaks:
     - http://www.stavsudda-handel.se/sidor/kajak.html Stavsudda Kajakdepå phone (+46) 8 571 650 78, fax (+46) 8 571 652 41.
     - www.fejans-kajakuthyrning.com In the very best part... 100 Kilometer from Stockholm + 20 minutes with taxi boat... For experianced kayakers.

For kayaking in the Stockholm Harbour (or the archipelago ´by car´), contact:
    - http://www.bkk.se/uthyrning/index.html email: info@bkk.se  (also gudid tours)

Of course You can hire a car and bring a kayak from Stockholm to a suitable place where the archipelago begins, the distance is not very with a car but when paddling, a little bit too long. A few other ideas (firms who are situated quite near the innermost part of the archipelago, and still quite a long bit to paddle before You will come to the "real" archipelago:

(in the outer, very open, part and not the typical nature with lots of small islands...)

You can visit The Yellow Pages http://www.gulasidorna.se/main/frameset.asp  , don´t use the english version, use the swedish version, with the keyword (´rubrik/sokord´): "kanoter" and mark a region (´valj omrade...´) in Sweden. Chose ´kanoter-uthyrning´.

Book your kayak many weeks in advance if you want to paddle in a week-end or during a vacation periods (June-July-August).

If You bring a kayak with a car from Stockholm, it´s good idea to start from Stavsnäs (40 km east Stockholm) or Räfsnäs (90 km north Stockholm) where its possible to park a car and still a have rather short distans to intresting and beautiful parts of the archpelago. And where You can find at least some commersal services...

Kayaking in the Swedish West Coast, contact :
    - http://kajakcenter.com/ in Grebbestad, the most beautiful part of the Swedish West Coast, the northen part!!

Welcome to Sweden!

Lasse
